Steven and team did an outstanding job turning our home from one with chipped paint from multiple terrible painting jobs and gapping holes from woodpeckers to looking like a brand new home! The team replaced all damaged shingles, removed an old door and added shingles in its place to match the rest of the house, sanded down the old paint (over multiple days) and then painted beautifully. They also took some extra days to remove old wallpaper up our stairs and in our hallways, repaired the drywall and repainted. Every day the team was onsite and ready to work at the time we were told (and usually even early) and the project was wrapped up exactly when we were told, and surpassed all of our expectations. We will definitely be recommending Flying Colors to anyone and everyone in the future. Broomfield Home Painting
Hi Kadie, when it’s sort of a piecemeal job like you’ve listed, we recommend bringing your head painter to help estimate. Your foreman, or most experienced painter can tell you how long each item will take. For example: Sanding and Painting 6 doors = 4 hours. 3 window shutters = 1.5 hours etc. After itemizing everything with your painter you’ll get a labor total, like 25 hours. And then charge an amount per hour that includes hourly labor, materials and your profit margin. Lets say all your items take 25 hours and you charge $60 per hour (includes labor, paint, and your markup). You would bill the customer 25x$60 = $1,500. This estimating process is recommended when there are many scattered things to be painted and it’s not just a full repaint. Hopefully this helps, Kadie. House Painting Broomfield CO

Get estimates from several contractors, request and contact references, search for complaints at the Better Business Bureau[12] and check that the company is properly bonded and insured, as well as licensed in your state[13] . Only pay a small deposit, and don't pay the entire amount until the job is finished to your complete satisfaction (both painting and cleanup).
If you choose to paint your home yourself, you can save on the cost of labor. But if you don’t have the time or experience to tackle to job, it’s worth paying the going rate for painters in your area. If your home requires power washing prior to painting, and if it requires caulking for windows and doors, the cost will also rise. Whether paint is applied with a sprayer, brushed, or rolled on will also factor into the price. A painting pro can easily offer an estimate prior to undertaking an exterior painting job. There’s no doubt about it: weather and time can take a toll on a house’s paint job. Sooner or later, most homeowners will need to tackle interior and exterior painting projects. The cost of painting a house will vary depending on many factors. If you have the time and energy, you can save money and paint a house yourself, and you just need to factor in the cost of paint and materials, as well as the value of your time. You can expect to pay between $700 to $3,000 to paint wood siding. You’ll end up spending $1 to $3 per square foot, but typically you’ll find this material is cheaper than brick or vinyl. Wood requires some type of sealant, be it paint, stain or oil. Lumber takes well to a wide variety of coverings giving you endless options for modern, contemporary or classic looks. Some things to consider when choosing wood:
Hi Mensah, we see all ranges of pricing for exterior house painting, but usually the pricing falls between $1.00 – $1.50 per square foot. Which means the price would roughly be $2,500 – $3,750. Please keep in mind that prep-work and other factors play a huge role in the cost. Also the quality of materials, ladder placements, drastic color changes etc.
Hi Jose I’m glad you like the blog. Unfortunately we don’t really do estimates for people. We offer advice (based on our own extensive experience with estimating) that can help guide you to a fair bid for both you and the homeowner. I don’t know what the price would be on your specific example, but I DO know that old wooden trimmed windows take a LONG time to prep and paint correctly. And I also know that going from a dark wood color to a white color can take 3 or 4 coats. Plus it depends if you’re switching finishes, oil to acrylic or vice versa, because you might need to apply a stain blocking primer before you even apply paint. Based on your example, I would estimate for extensive time on this job. Broomfield Home Painting

When you say trim for an interior paint job are you including the interior doors? I usally charge $25 a side, unless damaged, then it’s $50 a side in addition to the trimwork. Also, I think your calculations for paint needed for new construction are a little low, we just completed a 1550 sq ft house with a couple coats of PVA on the ceinlings & walls, that required 35 gallons of wall/ceiling paint-same [email protected] $20.50 a gallon, and 7 gallons of a waterborne alkyd hybrid for the trim & doors @ $50 a gallon, and a gallon for a fireplace & accent wall color, a couple gallons of primer and 22 tubes of caulk, for a total of about $1450 for paint & supplies. We spray ceilings & trim, and cut & roll walls. Broomfield Home Painting

Thus if you want to paint 2 rooms of approximately 150 sq. ft. each (300 sq.ft. total), you will be paying about $4 per sq. ft. However if you are painting the entire house, your base price is about $2.25 per sq.ft. for a 1 storey home with a total of 1700 sq.ft. of living area to be painted (including closets / staircases). A 2+ storey home of same size will cost about $2.45 per sq.ft. Broomfield House Painting

I hired a painting company to paint my house and garage. Price was about $5,000.Sherwin Williams paint T-1000. When he was questioned about the paint peeling two days after he painted the garage he quit even with a contract not a very professional person. So,now I have to find someone else to paint my house. After 3 weeks of them trying to paint around the rain. The original time frame was 3-4 days.Yes 3 weeks and all that got done was a small two car garage that could have been done in two days.I know he did not prep correctly and properly I will end up having to redo the garage. I went to Sherwin Williams and got the colors. So beware even with a contract and good references.
Walls should be wet down before getting scrubbed, then washed with a gallon of water mixed with 1 cup chlorine bleach and 1 cup of either a concentrated, phosphate-free cleaner, such as a trisodium phosphate (TSP) substitute, or Jomax House Cleaner. Working in sections, from the bottom to the top, will avoid streaks. Be sure to rinse walls well before the solution dries. Wood siding and trim should be ready to paint after a day or two of dry weather.
So I have an odd question. Ive been painting for years but this is the first time I have run into this issue. I have a client who has some concrete block walls in his basement he wants painted. The issue is that the walls do not complete a room so there is no way to calculate the square footage as a footprint. However the total wall length is 140 feet by 8 feet high. So how do i calculate labor since I can’t determine the square footage of a room? Do I use the square footage of the surface area of the walls at 140 feet long X 8 feet high? And if so what do I charge per square foot for the surface area? Again this only labor, the client will be buying the block sealer/primer and paint. For a reference, if I was painting a 400 square foot room I would charge 2 dollars a square foot labor. So based off of what I charge using the square footage of the footprint of a room how do I determine what to charge when I cant calculate by the footprint of the room?
